“A Game of Chance” campaign seeks to raise awareness and prevent accidental overdose deaths that can happen when using and mixing pain medications and other drugs and alcohol, including Fentanyl whether taken knowingly or not. The statewide multimedia and bi-lingual public awareness campaign provides New Mexicans greater access to information about the risks of using different drugs and alcohol to change the effect of another drug. As of November 2023, the multimedia and bi-lingual campaign has reached 951,005 New Mexicans across the state and will run through June, 2024.
The campaign features a game of chance using three red cups to illustrate the risk of overdose. The campaign highlights that using combinations of pain medication, including fentanyl, and anti-anxiety medications, over-the-counter sleep and cold medicines, with alcohol and illicit drugs, result in significant overdose risk.
The campaign includes gas station pump videos, billboards, bus shelters, kiosks, bus wraps, TV, digital and social media, also provides information on what Medication Assisted Treatment is, safe drug use, ending stigma barriers for many seeking help, where to get and how to use the lifesaving overdose reversal spray, Naloxone, and peer recovery support.
